Each workshop will be half a day, i.e. 4.5 hours long.

Group size Maximum of 12 per workshop unless stated otherwise

Modules can be used to create a bespoke team leader or manager development programme which can be run over a period of weeks/months to suit your needs. There is also the option of an assignment to conclude the programme that is set and marked at the ILM Level 3 standard.

Managing a Team

To provide a practical and easy to understand and apply approach to managing and motivating people.


  • Describe DISC and your profiles preferences

  • Explain how these impact on your managerial approach/style

  • Describe the roles & responsibilities of managing a team

  • Understand and apply the situational leadership model in the management of people.

  • Recognise your preferred style and identify how you can make full use of the right style at the right time with the right person.

  • Identify what motivates your team members and how you can harness their motivation to achieve high performance

Managing Performance

This workshop will introduce attendees to a process for managing under performance and how to ensure your highfliers are kept engaged and motivated to remain with you.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain what performance management is

  • Understand how to conduct effective appraisals

  • Effectively manage someone who is under performing using the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)

  • Identify your high fliers and how to develop and engage them as part of the succession plan for your business.

*Can be combined with Performance Conversations to make a one day workshop

Managing Absence

This interactive workshop will explain the importance of managing sickness and other absences to ensure business remains effective.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the types of absence and cost to business of absence

  • Explain the legal aspects applicable to absence management

  • Explain the difference between short-term and long-term absence and how each would be handled

  • Explain the implications on absence management where a disability is part of the absence reason.

  • Conduct an effective return to work interview

  • Understand the considerations when carrying out an ill-health dismissal.


Handling Discipline & Grievance Cases

The workshop will enable attendees to have a clear understanding of disciplinary and grievance processes, to be able to apply the principles of natural justice to discipline and grievance situations and gain familiarity with these processes to ‘lose the fear!’

Learning Outcomes:

  • To have a clear understanding of disciplinary and grievance processes

  • To gain familiarity with handling either process – ‘lose the fear!’

  • To apply the principles of natural justice to Disciplinary and Grievance situations


Recruitment & Selection

This workshop takes attendees through the Recruitment and Selection Process

Learning Outcomes:

  • Undertake an effective recruitment and selection process and avoid any legal pitfalls

  • Understand the importance of the exit interview in the replacement of staff who have left

  • Be able to prepare a person specification for recruitment

  • Be able to develop effective interview questions

  • Carry out a selection interview

  • Make selection decisions and provide candidate feedback

  • Plan induction and probation


Recruitment Interviewing

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of selection interviews

  • Understand what bias and discrimination are and how employment law applies to the selection process

  • Develop effective interview questions

  • Conduct an effective interview

  • Handle candidate questions appropriately

  • Make notes during the interview that can be used to rate the candidate and provide feedback

  • Objectively score the interview answers and write supporting statements

  • Make objective selection decisions and provide candidate feedback


Equality & Diversity Awareness

Provides an introduction to equality and diversity and the rights and responsibilities of the employer and employee.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the concept of diversity and how good diversity practice contributes to business success.

  • Identify the effect of discriminatory behaviour on individuals and the organisation.

  • Identify and understand the nature of prejudice and discrimination.

  • Put their knowledge into practice in a range of work situations.


Equality & Diversity for Managers

The aim of this workshop is to ensure that managers are aware of the organisation’s commitment to equality and diversity and of their rights and responsibilities to manage issues relating to Equality and diversity including bullying and harassment.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the concept of diversity and how good diversity practice contributes to the business,

  • Identify the effect of discriminatory behaviour,

  • Understand their responsibilities with regard to bullying and harassment,

  • Describe how to identify signs of being bullied or harassed in their staff,

  • Describe how to handle cases of bullying/harassment and where they as managers can go for support,

  • Put their knowledge into practice in a range of work-related situations,


There will also be a refresher of the basic E&D leaning that the online training covered.


Appraisal – meaningful and adding value

Practical workshop on conducting effective appraisals.

Learning Outcomes:

•           Explain what performance appraisal is and its purpose

•           Understand how to conduct effective appraisals

•           Develop SMART objectives

•           Review performance against objectives and give feedback

•           Rate performance and identify the difference between ratings

•           Describe how behaviour links to objectives

•           Identify positive and negative examples of behaviour

•           Demonstrate effective use of the skills involved in an appraisal                            meeting.

Performance Conversations

The aim of this course is to develop skills and confidence in having a range of performance conversations with staff

An introduction to being more assertive in your dealings with others.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognise the three styles of behaviour – passive – assertive – aggressive through verbal and non-verbal indicators

  • Explain the advantages & disadvantages of each style

  • Identify what stops them from being assertive

  • Understand and use the SEW model for assertive communication

  • Explain what the assertive rights are

  • Demonstrate assertive behaviour

Practical interactive workshop looking at how to be confident when communicating.

A practical guide to conducting workplace investigations for disciplinary or grievance purposes

  • Conduct an effective investigation meeting
